Political Vision: The 10 Point Plan for Financing Biodiversity
Point 1 – International Financial Flows
France: Increasing Biodiversity Finance
What
The Government of France is mainstreaming biodiversity as part of its international development agency (AFD).
Goal
France has set a target to reach at least €1 billion annually of international biodiversity finance by 2025.
Recent activities
In 2022, the AFD has already reached €736 million of international biodiversity finance, and is on track to continue to meet its target by 2025. In addition, 30% of climate finance will have biodiversity co-benefits by 2025.
Benefits
Mainstreaming biodiversity within international development finance ensures synergies can be built across development programs and increase the amount of funding that supports biodiversity. Embedding biodiversity into development finance also ensures that new development programs avoid or mitigate harm to nature.
